MATHCOUNTS
Since its beginnings nationally in 1983, the MATHCOUNTS program has encouraged thousands of junior high students to pursue mathematically inclined careers such as engineering. Each February over 30 schools from 5 counties come to compete for the regional MATHCOUNTS competition. The event has both private and public schools from around the country competing against each other as both individuals and teams. It is very rewarding to see how these bright kids excel in math and enjoy the competition. For more information on being a part of this fun and rewarding committee, please contact the representative listed on the 'Contact Us' page.
Student Professional Development Committee (SPDC)

PROJECT CREATE
PROJECT CREATE (Creative Responses from Elementary Age ThinkErs), was developed and initiated by the FES - Central Florida Chapter 13 years ago. It has expanded from four (4) schools to 24 elementary schools (public and private) from Orange and Seminole Counties. Project CREATE is designed to help the students better understand the creative thinking and problem solving process in a non-competitive environment (i.e., it is emphasized that there are no right or wrong answers, only ideas and solutions.) The introduction to creative thinking and problem solving is accomplished by presenting the students with a challenge that the entire class works together on to select a solution or solutions. All the schools and classes who were involved in the Project CREATE program are invited to the Engineering Expo at the University of Central Florida arena to display their models and to compare their project solution with other classes. This event occurs annually, typically the last Friday of February. During the Engineering Expo, three participation events, the Egg Drop competition, the Paper Airplane competition, and the Scavenger Hunt are available for student participation.
